I’m incredibly thankful for our United States military. 🇺🇸
Every day, our highly trained service members operate around the world — at sea, under the sea, in the air, on land, on bases overseas, gathering intelligence, and working with allies to keep Americans safe.
For decades, the Islamic regime in Iran has caused instability in the Middle East, supported terrorism, and contributed to the deaths of Americans. Since 1979, this has been a long-standing threat, not something new. Our military has faced these dangers for generations.
They operate in dangerous environments with real threats, often under complex rules of engagement, and they deserve the ability to do their jobs safely while protecting innocent lives.
At the same time, there is a real disconnect between civilians and those who serve.
Less than 1% of Americans are serving in the military today. Only about 6% of Americans have ever served.
Only about 2% of journalists or media workers in the U.S. are military veterans.
That means over 90% of Americans have never worn the uniform.
A very small percentage of our population carries an enormous responsibility for the safety of the entire country.
Our highly trained service members and veterans deserve not only our respect, but a deeper understanding of the sacrifices they make every day.
